Low Cost Therapy

Our low cost therapy program is designed for people who believe they may benefit from therapy but may not be able to afford the full cost of treatment.

More Information

  • The program is run via the Self Space clinical internship, which trains and supervises advanced graduate students who are then able to provide services at a lower cost. Therapy lasts between 9-12 months, through the end of each intern’s graduate program, at which time you may have the option to continue with your therapist after they are fully licensed or we will help you find a new intern or therapist to work with.

While low cost therapy does cost less than full-cost therapy, the experiences are similar, as our goal is to provide everyone a high quality therapy experience that prioritizes dignity, agency, choice, and fit between therapist and client.

Here is how the process works:

    1. Fill out the Request Appointment form below. Our Matching Specialist will contact you with more information and next steps within 24 hours.

    2. Take a look at our Intern therapists’ bios. One of the most important factors in therapy is working with a therapist who is the “right fit”. You can choose a therapist you’d like to work with or you can work with our Matching Specialist to help find the best fit.

    3. Book, schedule, and attend your sessions! Here’s where the magic happens.

When your therapist is approaching the end of their graduate program (likely 9-12 months after beginning your work together), they will begin discussing next steps with you. You may have the option to continue with your therapist after they are fully licensed, we can work with you to help you find a new intern therapist or other therapist to work with moving forward, or you may choose to conclude therapy at that time.

  • In the same way we believe that therapy is not just for the rock-bottom moments but can be a regular part of your healthcare routine, you don't have to be at financial rock-bottom to receive care from an excellent low cost provider. Quite simply, low cost therapy is for people who feel they could benefit from getting therapy but are unable to afford it. We do not screen for income status, but rather ask for a statement from you explaining why this option is the best fit for you based on your financial needs.

Offering low cost therapy services allows us to serve a wide range of people, ranging from traditionally underserved populations to people experiencing significant life transitions such as job changes or big moves that can leave us needing support but unable to afford the care we need. We hope this is an answer to the many potential situations that may leave you struggling to balance these competing needs.

  • All sessions are $90, whether individual or couples sessions.

    • Payment is due at the time of the appointment. Your credit card will be taken when you schedule a session and this card will be charged automatically at the end of each session.

    • HSA cards can be used, and are entered into our system in the same way as a debit or credit card.

    • We love supporting folks in helping professions, and so we are currently offering teachers and educators sessions for $60. Simply tell your therapist that you work at a school and they will adjust your fee.

  • All of our clinical interns have first met the rigorous graduate school and state requirements to serve as advanced graduate-level trainees. Although we care deeply about hiring the top technical students in the field to meet the highest standards of care, we also focus on hiring therapy interns who are incredible people: developing therapists who know how to nurture safe, curious, compassionate, and genuine relationships. We hire clinical interns who enjoy being in their own therapy and clearly have found therapy to be meaningful in their own lives. The end result is a talented team who, between their ongoing training, supervision, and general personality and approach, can work alongside you.

Intern therapists receive extensive supervision by licensed clinical supervisors throughout their tenure. At Self Space, they engage in both one-on-one supervision, consultation, mentorship, and group training with senior-level, licensed supervisors and are also closely supervised by their school faculty and peers. This program assures quality of care while also providing interns with invaluable experience in the field.
