Intern Therapist

I believe therapy is a meaningful, purposeful way of improving on the many strengths you already possess. It can be terribly painful to be in emotional distress, but in therapy, the connection between the client and counselor can be a paramount reminder that you are not alone in that pain. I work to create a rapport and connection with my clients that helps support them as they dive into problematic patterns and identify recurring themes without shame or avoidance. I am compassionate, non-judgmental, and accept all clients for who they are and where they are in life. My goal is to help you better understand yourself so that you can achieve your goals and live a more fulfilling life.

I work primarily with adults who recognize that gaining insight into their daily lives can improve their mental health. My style is integrative, drawing on themes from psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral theories, while also utilizing a client-centered approach and techniques from motivational interviewing. I emphasize the wholeness of each client and explore how each person can become more creative, loving, spontaneous, and accepting of themselves. Engaging in self-reflection and self-examination can be uncomfortable. That is why I endeavor to be present and in the moment with each client, inspiring change by helping them put words to feelings that have been difficult to acknowledge. I use a trauma-informed approach that validates each client's experience from a range of backgrounds and cultures.

I grew up in Wyoming and lived the last 15 years in Colorado before moving to Seattle for graduate school. The Rocky Mountains were the perfect place to gain my deep appreciation for nature – I grew up with horses that my family would take on extended trips into the wilderness and fish for trout. I have worked in the mental health field for 30 years, performing case management and social work for people with serious and persistent mental illness. I love being in Seattle where I am again surrounded by mountains and enjoy hiking and exploring the many beaches with my wife.
