Intern Therapist
Welcome! I believe therapy is a space where every part of you, even those that have felt unwelcome or misunderstood, can find acceptance. Whether you’re new to therapy or have been down this road before, sharing your story is incredibly courageous. Together, we’ll explore your story with compassion, and listen with curiosity to the ways you might desire a new way forward in your life and relationships.
I work with people who are motivated to better understand themselves and how they function in their relationships. I especially enjoy working with folks navigating life transitions, loneliness and relationship issues, anxiety, depression, queer identities, and chronic illness. My approach is warm, relational, and grounded in psychodynamic therapy. While I don’t see myself as a “fixer” of problems, I do see myself as a partner in facing them. Our focus will be creating a safe-enough space to understand how past experiences shape your present, using our relationship as a catalyst for growth and healing.
You are the foremost expert in your life and your experiences, and I see it as my job to partner with you to become aware of how you want to move forward in light of what you’ve been through. To do this, I mainly use approaches from depth-oriented psychodynamic therapy while often drawing from parts work (IFS), mindfulness and DBT, and interpersonal neurobiology. At the same time, we’ll hold an awareness of how systemic power structures have shaped us and our relationships. I’m less interested in giving you homework or rigid treatment plans, and more invested in how our continued connection in the present moment can reveal profound change over time.
I believe that healing happens on a whole-body level, and we’ll strive to care for both your thinking brain and your embodied self in sessions together. I also believe that a little humor and playfulness can go a long way towards healing some pretty heavy stuff. All parts of you are welcome here. There’s a saying in psychotherapy that before you can change, you have to accept who you are. My hope is that by embracing you exactly as you are, our work together will foster more authenticity, fluidity, and relief in the areas of your life where you may currently feel disconnected, stuck, or anxious.
I grew up in Eastern Washington, which left me with a fierce love for sagebrush, Top 40 radio, and wandering the foothills of the Cascades by foot or by mountain bike. My path from there to Self Space has meandered through work as a field biologist, bilingual preschool teacher, public health outreach worker, and many other opportunities to ponder the human condition from different angles. Navigating chronic illness in adulthood has allowed me to grow into new and lesser-known parts of myself. I graduated from Whitman College with a degree in Biology, and am now completing a Master’s of Counseling Psychology at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. I’m often found cuddling on the couch with my dear aging dog, kayaking (but mostly floating and looking at seals) on Elliot Bay, or exploring the city by way of thrift shops and cozy cafes.
