I believe that all people are inherently worthy, deserving of respect, and hold the potential to be agents of their own healing--we just sometimes need the proper space and support to do so. My aim as a therapist is to provide a space where you feel unconditionally accepted, safe, and empowered to explore what is holding you back so you can live your most fulfilling life.
I specialize in working with people who have experienced abuse, feel stuck in negative beliefs about themselves, or live with high levels of shame. These experiences can show up in many ways: anxiety, depression, difficulties having healthy relationships, dissociation, and much more. Often these struggles are rooted in past traumatic experiences. One definition of trauma is anything that exceeds our ability to cope at that present time. Some people worry that “too much time has gone by", that they should “already be over this”, or that what they went through “wasn’t that big of a deal,” yet the experience still feels unresolved and makes life more challenging. Whether you experienced a “Big T” trauma or a “Little t” trauma, whatever suffering you experience is valid, and there is no expiration date to start the healing process.
The primary types of therapy I provide are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), although I often also incorporate elements of person-centered therapy, strengths-based therapy, mindfulness, self-compassion, attachment theory, and trauma-informed therapy. Through a structured series of steps, EMDR gives people a means to be able to fully process memories that hold them back and reinforces positive beliefs about themselves. IFS provides people a way to create healthy relationships with all parts of themselves, whether that is a part holding onto shame, a part that dislikes being vulnerable, a part that seeks emotional numbing, and much more. IFS also provides a method to unburden the parts of a person that feel stuck holding onto pain from past trauma.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Born and raised in Iowa, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Northern Iowa and afterwards obtained my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling at Minnesota State University, Mankato. I started my career out in Iowa, but ultimately decided to call Seattle home!
In my free time I enjoy catching up on the latest fantasy/sci-fi/superhero movie or tv show, exploring different restaurants, or taking things slow and enjoying the simple pleasures of home and family. I make efforts to engage in regular self-care in order to prioritize my own mental health and personal development so I can bring my most mindful, integrated, compassionate, and embodied self to my work with clients.
