In this workshop, mental health professionals will explore essential skills and insights to build deeper, more authentic connections with clients of color. This workshop is designed to address the unique challenges that can arise in therapeutic relationships, particularly when cultural norms, historical context, and identity come into play. This workshop is an invitation to do the important internal work needed to ensure we are not only culturally competent therapists, but also centering the client experience by truly listening, learning, and building trust with clients of color. This workshop is meant to be an eye-opening and deeply enriching collaborative experience that explores the impact of racial trauma, the importance of understanding one’s own identity as the mental health professional, historical mistrust of the healthcare system and authenticity in the therapeutic relationship.
Key Teachings
Enhance Cultural Competency: Equip mental health professionals with the knowledge to recognize and respect cultural norms and values that may be present in the lives of clients of color, fostering more effective and culturally inclusive therapeutic interventions.
Understand the Impact of Racial Trauma: Provide mental health professionals with an understanding of how racial trauma affects the mental health of people of color.
Examine the Mental Health Professional’s Role in Building Trust: Encourage mental health professionals to engage in self-reflection regarding their own identity, privileges, and biases, and provide strategies to mitigate mistrust between clients of color and the healthcare system.
Promote Authenticity and Relationship Building: Support mental health professionals in cultivating an authentic, trusting therapeutic relationship by emphasizing the importance of cultural humility, ongoing education, and active listening in their practice with clients of color.

Tychelle works with individuals and couples who are looking to explore who they are and how they can make sense of the world around them more clearly. Folks who may be experiencing anxiety and depression, or even trying to figure out if that is what they should call it. In my work with couples I look to support and facilitate health communication and individual and collective understanding.
