Minimizing Weight Biased Harm in Healthcare

In most graduate programs, healthcare professionals are taught about biases related to diversity and marginalized groups, and how these can impact the care you offer as a provider. It is then encouraged to explore your own biases around issues such as racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, ageism, and so on. In this 90 minute training, healthcare professionals will learn how weight bias is another form of bias that needs to be addressed and better understood. The training will go over common myths associated with fatness and debunk oldstanding beliefs. Providers will also receive education on the harm weight bias can cause, and how individuals can try to minimize it in their practice. Lastly, providers will be given information on the prevalence of eating disorders in people of all body sizes, and how to detect possible disordered behaviors.
