Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that combines strategies like mindfulness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance to help individuals manage intense emotions and improve interpersonal relationships. Originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, it is now used for various mental health conditions, emphasizing the balance between acceptance and change. This 2-session course provides an understanding of DBT and when/how to use specific coping skills in practice.
Key Teachings
1. Understanding the 4 modules of DBT: Definitions, concepts, and skills related to mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance
2. Understanding when and how to incorporate coping tools into practice: Specific coping techniques from each module for therapists to provide to their clients in times of need.
This course is designed to help therapists expand their knowledge of the DBT paradigm and offer their clients new and effective ways to deal with past, present, and future stressors.
